Some advise required, being a muslim and a semi hearted lifter...
I have to fast for a month, which means no eating from sun rise to sun set,
what would be a good breakfast to keep me going most of the day, and would it be a good idea to lift just before eating at sunset.

thanks

i have not had a break from training in 4 months and my body feels pretty burnt out so i'm gonna take the month off. During ramadan most people don't have the energy to even get up out of bed nevermind going to the gym.

if your worried about losing weight i wouldn't worry about is as i have measured my weight 5 times out of the last five years before and after ramadan and my weight stayed the same

hope this helps

thanks
I have just started to back in the gym and really wanna keep doing it, got a bit to loose,
I am just wondering what a good breakfast would be and if its fairly safe to workout just before eating again in the afternoon

i would get a good fix of slow burn carbs in. oats, muesli or any cereal and grain products. supplement that with a healthy protein shake or an egg sandwich in wholemeal to your taste of course and you haven't had a peice of fruit yet, so have a peice! so that's your morning before sunrise. okay so lunchtime you'll probably start getting to be hungry, but you will be loaded with good food from the morning. and you only have to wait till it's dark.
once it's dark you can be more planned and eat something 2 hourly to make up the deficit and to show the body it doesn't need to switch to starvation mode- keep it simple and small grazing on a good mix of carb/protein/fats... drink water much more than you normally would too. get in a good sixteen glasses a day if you can!

correct me if i'm wrong, ramadan is not about starvation, it's about you and control of yourself. yes it does remind you of people less fortunate and of the suffering of others etc... and this can be a very reflective time for you as a muslim(hey i don't know much but i'm just trying to sell my perspective without insulting someone who has a different religion to me as i do agree whole heartedly with the practise of ramadan and the basics i understand about it)but it's only daylight that gives you a don't eat- so ensure you get the most excellent control outside of those hours. i would also say don't exercise on an empty stomach unless you want to lose muscle/weight.

remember you may have sick days when you cannot follow this regime to the letter during rammadam(it is allowed to miss one but add one isn't it?)- i don't know how this works but if you get too weak whilst training and really can't keep it up properly- can you class this pressure as sick for a day, then for your own retribution add a day on to your rammadam period each time you may need to? (it's a naughty suggestion you may be able to agree with)- but i do mean when you seriously are feeling depleted and a good lunchtime would put you back on track.

i do wish you all the best with this. i have a friend who failed miserably last year due to some terrible stomach ulcers and digestive problems and i know he never reedeemed himself- so today he was talking about how he has to do it for himself this year as he feels ashamed. i didn't get it as i said to him as at work we are christians and it's only us christians who know he cheated at work and he was vwery sick on many days- he says ''thats not the point.'' so medals all round just for trying- i couldn't do it!

hey raj..im tryna loose some weigfht also...wel hopefully wat im gna do is before closing the fast im going to do 1 hour of cardio.(wake up at 4 after half an hour of tryna wake myself i will run on the treadmill that i hav at home and then wait an hour should be abt 5:30am just drink water and close fast) i find that when i dont eat anything in the morning i don't feel hungry and hopefully my body will fuel on my fat stores..its gna be hard but worth it. then once i open my fast i will eat sumthing healthy wat id normally eat for lunch..and then eat a piece of fruit or snak on sum veg every 2 hours 2 get ma bod out of starvation mode..and then do another hour of cardio around 8pm...and get sum sleep...and get ready for another morning...yipee!!...good luck raj ul do it if u stick to it don't give up just keep going and ul feel soooooo strong and good abt urself...trust me...keep me updated

I strongly agree with Neil's advice. Good carbs, fiber, protein! Go for it.
Have a good fast.
