that should be how it is to begin with. you need to be getting the majority of your nutrition from real, whole food. dont forget that supplements are just that: they supplement a whole food diet.

A shake is better post-workout for quicker absorbtion.

Just eat lots of tuna and chicken and you will get lots of protein with low fat and low carbs. Egg whites have a lot of protein too, so just eat a lot of high protein/low fat foods and you can give up the shakes. I think the majority of us take them for convenience anyway (at least I do). I just don't have time to eat too many real meals in a day, so the shake helps me out.

good advice rev.. the recommended time to get in your shakes is 15-45 minutes following your workout.. the reason being that your body is crying for replenishment and a shake can provide that easy and quickly. The only other time to take a shake is when you are trying to consume say 5-7 meals a day and it's just to difficult to eat that much each day in terms of solid food.

The only problem i've had with protein is getting too much.

I usually have daily 150g tuna, 2 banana's, 100g cereal, 250g yogurt, 200-400g cottage cheese 3-4 pints of skim milk and other various foods switched in and out.

My daily protein intake varies from 185 to 230. I'm having to cut down on the mik i drink to keep it closer to FT's recomended 175.

Don't cut down too much on milk...it's too good for your health! Why don't you try protein bars, white eggs or a delicious yogurt??

I usually eat cottage cheese, tuna & some MRP to make change...

Sempia, $60 for 2 weeks!! If I were you I would switch my protein. That is my opinion cents though. I can get a 5 lb. container of Whey protein for around $30, that lasts a month or so. I suppose though it just depends on your tastes and needs though, but I really like mine. That just sounds really spendy.

I have looked at the cheaper ones and found they have a lot of extra things in them including lactos. I take Whey Gold which is lactos free and supposed to be very clean & pure 27g protein/scoop low cal & carbs. Others need twice the amount of whey to have same protein but with more cals & carbs. Also I am in Canada not sure where you are duketter

Sempai, I take Optimum Whey Protein. Check it out and tell me what you think about it. I think it is really good. I am in good old North Dakota so not too far away from your border. And no it is not freezing up here and yes we do have cars. lol Actually it was 102 degrees here 2 days ago.

Ill look for it, havent crossed that one yet. I have been checking them every where I go and it seems cosistant that with the cheaper ones you get more cal, more carbs, more lactos, plus other stuff you dont need. But less protein. At the price I am paying I may try the more natural aproach

Anything can make you fat if your not burning calories(exercise), but I know we don't have that problem here. Always keep this simple thought in mind. Protein is muscle, muscle is protein.:dumbbell:

Hi everyone I'm new here and I have several questions; I am going to begin taking Whey Protien and I need a better understanding on how to use it for the best results. Should I take it before or after workouts or before and after workouts? Should I take it on days that I don't workout? Also any added advice would be appreciated. Thank You!!!

Whey protein should be taken post workout...that is the most efficient period. This is because whey is absorbed by the body more quickly so post workout is the best time.

You really need to take in other sources of protein on days you don't workout. So, you shouldn't have to rely on whey alone as your protein source.

I know nothing I am trying to read, but I am becoming a little confused. I am still trying to lose weight. I do the "gain muscle mass" program on here. After this I spend about 20-25 minutes on the eliptical. Im in the process of losing around 10 lbs. Should I take whey? My normal diet consists of oatmeal for breakfast, chicken breast lunch ( after workout), and a grilled chicken salad for dinner. The vitamins I am taking are C, Iron + b12 ( 2days a week), and omega 3. Should I take whey or should I improve my diet?
