Well, I just finished my first day's workout. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are "muscle days" (I'm not sure what you call them) and the remaining four days are for cardio. I do have a history of trouble with syncope (or near-syncope), so I am trying to start off slowly with small workouts and not overwhelm myself. I'm no longer on medications to alleviate that due to dependency, but I find that as long as I'm drinking plenty of water and eating frequently, I'm generally alright. During my first workout, I did start to feel faint, but it was meerly a lightheaded feeling and I did not have extreme tunnel vision. I'm hoping that as I get my body in shape, I will become healthier in this respect and problems like this will fade. Another positive effect of getting fit will be the increased production of endorphins. Not only will they help uplift my mood, they will also help with memory retention as I study for the GRE and work on my goal of becoming a doctor.
I'm not really sure how often I'll write on here, I guess I'll just see how I feel as I go. I'm not doing this so much for random people to read over the Interwebs as I am for myself to look back on and maintain momentum. My worst fear is that I'll start skipping days and get myself nowhere. I've never done an exercise program like this before and I realize that lifestyle changes must be made in order to achieve the kind of results I want. As far as diet goes, I'm basically grasping at straws but I could be doing worse. Currently I'm looking for a free online diet program. At least I make sure that I'm eating a good balance of fruits, vegetables, and meats. Dairy, bread, and fat I'm not too worried about since I seem to be drawn to such things as ice cream, yogurt smoothies, snack cakes, and other treats...
