Biking

Yesterday was a good ride on the new road bike.. Before that, if I rode anywhere, it was on a mountain bike, both in my adult years and as a kid.  I'll say one thing, riding a road bike, you can go SO MUCH FASTER.  One GPS reading showed me at 75km/h on a downhill (though i'm sure that's not accurate) but another GPS reading showed me in the 60s, which I do believe.

With the MTB being 27~ pounds, and the road bike at 17~ pounds, it feels much lighter under me, and of course the option of getting much lower on it felt great at speed.

Today was a good ride on the MTB on a local trail.  My singletrack skills are far beyond what they were last year.  I think a big part of that is having done a bunch of night riding last year.  The other part is getting my ass out of the seat and pushing the bike through all those bends and turns at speed makes riding SO much more fun that I just want to go faster and faster!

Can't wait to ride again.. perhaps tomorrow before work :)

WOW that's FAST on a bike!! I've taken my motorcycle to ludicrous speed, but not sure I'd go crazy fast on a regular bike! Singletrack is a dirt trail where bikes ride single file because it's generally too narrow to ride side by side except in odd spots where it might be wide enough to make a pass, but then back to single file. Typically trees on both sides of you. Mountainbiking is such a great way to forget about the rest of the world and just immerse yourself in the outdoors. I get pretty excited about meeting animals and really just taking in fresh air :)

Coming off the Blue Ridge Parkway years ago we always took the highway from just above Blowing Rock NC [about 4000 feet +-] to Lenoir [1100 feet] over about 20 miles. It was a 4 lane road with a 55 mph speed limit. We were passing cars. We also had absolutely zero brains and bike helmets didn't exist. 17 lbs? That is staggering. Needless to say there was no GPS in '72. What is single track? Why in the world would you ride at night. The road bike I had in the navy was 27 lbs. That was unbelievably light in those days. We all hung our bikes in a companionway on the ship so we had transportation everywhere we went.
