We felt a bit like Gilligan today. We went out for a 2 hour canoe ride. We got to the 1 hour out mark and as the song went, "the weather started getting rough...
The ride back was a bitch. We were in 3 foot chop and paddling into a wind off the port bow. I'd guess it was 20 mph steady with 30 mph gusts. We had to paddle way harder than we wanted to in order to make headway. Usually with the kayak paddles I can paddle a few extra strokes on one side to steer.
That was not the case today. I had to paddle hard on one side just to stay on our land mark. We had big water to cross and that was fun. We are pretty experienced mariners so we were safe. It was all we could do to make the crossing into the wind though.
To make it worse, the admiral had to pee.
This was one of the more difficult workouts I've had in a while because there was no rest possible. About 2 miles from the marina we got into the lea of our cove and things settled down. We were both soaked but it's still 80 degrees here so that was nice.
So... 2 hours hard paddling. I'm tired.
We had absolutely no warning on the wind but on the water, shit just happens. Great ride. Great rush. Great workout.
