Hello all. I am a fairly advanced weight lifter, However I need some advice in a seperate but related issue. I work out five days a week, One body part at a time and usually try and do Cardio all five days at a high level for 30 minutes, However no matter what I do I cannot seem to get past the point I am at in Body Fat at 18 percent. I believe it is because my love for drinking 3 nights a week, I try to only drink protein shakes on the days I am going to be drinking beer thinking the horrible carbs in the beer will already put me over my limits for that day, I am wondering other than the obvious of quitting the booze, If anyone can recommend some lower fat drinks ie: Vodka and Tonic Water. Also, Is there anyone out there who loves to drink like myself with low body fat? I assume it is just genetics, but am wondering what info is out there, Also does anyone know a good site that tells the fat and carb contents of specific brands of alcohol. Thanks Guys and sorry for this type of post.

Good question. Being a beer maker myself, the only advice I can give you is cut down. Any type of alcoholic beverage will keep you bloated. Wheter it is a beer with 5% or 7& alc level. As long as there is alcohol there is sugar. The alcohol is made through yeast fermintation with sugar.
In turn, when you consume it, the liver doesn't know what to do with it, and stores it, therefore making you bloat.
Other alc beverages are the same story, full of empty calories. So the only thing I would say is, cut back.
I don't know if that is what you wanted to hear. BTW I don't make beer anymore!

Umm, yeah. Why do you work out? To be healthy?
I, too, used to love beer and mixed drinks, but i didn't love the 217 pound body that resulted from it... If you want to keep making progress cut back to one night a week or even once a month. if it is that important to you , you need to examine why. is it the only way you know how to 'take the edge off' or relax? I do cardio when the urge to drink is really bad, it gives me an endorphin high and no ill effects the next day.
There are a lot of better ways to relax - get a massage, massage a friend, take some relaxing classes like stretching or yoga, or find an evening activity that replaces the time psent at the bar or wherever you are drinking - maybe a basketball group or biking or something.
Good luck!

Amen Asimmer...I too, used to looooooove my alcohol. However that was 45#'s ago. You've got to replace a bad habit with a healthy one. It takes time & the longer you stay away from relying on alcohol, the less you'll crave it at all. Today, my body totally rejects any ingestion of alcohol.
If you're not 100% ready to take care of your body then you won't get the results you're looking for.

Wow, I am new to this site and would like to thank all who replied. I have been meaning to sign up for some activities so that I am not influenced to go out to the bars, This change will have to wait until after the Leafs win the Stanley Cup. Thanks Guys and Gals.

You can do it. I used to drink every night, now I probably consume 1 or 2 drinks a month, if that. Now, I find when I do drink, I feel worse, instead of better. I'll wind up with headaches & nausea, sometimes before I even finish my drink!
