I was just wondering what everyone's squat max amount was. Especially the girls. Mine is 245 as of yesterday. I am proud of myself, but I don't know how I "match up"

Ar you female or male?
I do 225 for six to ten reps depending on the energy level that day and whether we do them first in the workout, also whther I have a dependable spotter. Keep it up, and remember, it isn't about how you 'measure up', just that you beat your own records. So, you 'measure up' to me! Always be proud of yourself, no matter what weight you are pushing, pressing or squatting. Just by walking in the door at the gym you have already done more than probably 60% of the population!-------------- Challenge + Consistency = Results |

Acctually, I don't 'measure up' to you. You have like 0% body-fat!! I have like 80% (not really that much). I love lifting, I hate cardio (although I force myself to do it) and I like to eat -too much! I am really having a tough time with my diet, I guess. I do really good for a few days and then I go berzerk and eat the whole house one day...then I go back to doing good again. AAAAAAAHHHH!!! That is the most frustrating thing ever to me(eating right) I mean, I know what I should eat, but knowing what's right and doing what's right are deffinatly two different things. Do you have any tips?? Your pictures look great. I look more like you in the first picture but I have A LOT of muscle. I am happy with the basic shape of my body but I have to loose more fat. I am in a rut I think. Could this one day a week that I always eat too much on be sabatoging my routine?? I don't eat THAT much on this day. Well....yes I do. Like, yesterday, for example I screwed up, I ate...
protein shake small plain cheeseburger 2 pieces of banana bread 1 Dove Chocolate Bunny (eek!) protein shake grapefruit about 100 oz. of water, though :) (I realize that this day was HORRIBLE-not enough protein, too much junk.....) but today I am doing good so far........ I've had....... turkey sand. on 12 grain w/low-fat mayo lima beans protein shake ..and I will have stir-fry for dinner and probably another shake Sorry this is so long :( I really hope you come back here and look to see this. But, do you think the reason I'm not loosing fat quick is because of my "sabatoge day"?? |

245 is a fantastic squat, ht!
Diet can be tough, and cardio sucks. But I realized that it wasn't so much the cardio that I hated, but the way I did it, i.e. treadmill, stair climber, etc... What I did was incorporate different and "unconventional" cardio into my routine, such as trail running, moutain biking, etc. Don't think that the only things you can do are located in a gym! Good luck, and keep us posted... -------------- Michael "Trample the weak; hurdle the dead!" |

Thanks Rev!! My fiance' and I love to hike and bike and if it ever becomes summer here we will be outside first thing. Although until then I must be a slave to the cardio machines in my gym :( I've never even thought of trail-running it sounds awesome! I'll give it a try though.

hey, ht.. my pictures are from doing a bodybuilding competition - I am up a little from then. But.. if you eat right you will get results. i can tell you what made a difference for me ( I worked out hard for many years without ever getting lean, mostly dietary reasons, but some other things..)
1) I did cardio before I lifted, sometimes an hour, and did it so hard I couldn't breath. Since I went to school/became a trainer and learned about heart rate and exertion levels I have taken it down a few notches, can breath while I do cardio and actually enjoy cardio (especially the challenge of HIIT). 2) I did cardio before I lifted.. I was using all my stored, powerful glycogen to run and then trying to use my stored bodfat to lift.. they are better the other way around. I started seeing and feeling the difference almost immediately when i switched to just warming up before lifting, lifting and then doing cardio (if it was a cardio day). 3) I didn't change how I ate, and I thought I was eating fairly healthily (according to the food pyramid) lots of breads, bagels and pasta for energy (what a crock) and lots of low-fat or no fat products (lots of sugar and chemicals, i mean, hey! Twizzlers cherry twist are fat free, you can eat as many as you want, right?). And only a little meat now and then, and lots of soy.. You see where this is going? Oh, and don't forget the slim-fast (I call it fat fast now). And gosh, if I eat "right" all week, I can drink lite beer all weekend, right? So, where did this all leave me? depressed at 217lbs, demotivated, and wondering why eating right and exercising wasn't working... In school I met a guy who was a bodybuilder, he looked fantastic. I bagan my journey, I started reading everything I could find about bodybuilding diets and asking all the questions he would tolerate. I also learned in my schooling about exercise intensity, program design and progression. I recommend that you try writing down everything you eat for awhile, it keeps you honest and clues you in to whether you are bingeing for emotinal reasons, or more likely because you are not eating enough the rest of the time. If you email me your body composition, I will try to help you design a diet cycle that will help you drop bodyfat without losing energy and without being too hungry. Good luck, hope I haven't bored you to death, i just think that so many people need to hear that it isn't their fault, it is usually misinformation... -------------- Challenge + Consistency = Results |

Everyone look down at me as mine is 180 I think. I haven't maxed my squat in a long time but I would guess its about the same as my squat form is usually poor. Its a pain to do at home (I don't have a squat rack) and i'm kind of afraid to ask anyone at the gym to spot a max squat. My brother does a good job.. its just difficult to pull your max squat up off a bench instead of a squat rack.

I found a wider stance.....really helped my squats......alot-------------- My drinking squad, has a cheerleading problem!! |

hmm... i suck at wide squats...i switched to 6-8 inch stance with 2.5lb under heels...works great for me...I have no strength with wide stance...probably can do half or 3/4 of my close stance totals...i try to incorporate them at the end of my close stance workouts...but my results have been limited....

have to ge tuse to it menace.......took me abotu 2 weeks for my hips and hams to get used to that motion......you lean over quite alot in "sumo" style..so you need a strong lower back....which you have........might wanna give it a try for a few weeks see what happens.-------------- My drinking squad, has a cheerleading problem!! |

Menace, your problem may just be flexibility in your groin area that causes you to have problems with wide stance. That was my problem, that and not enough hamstring strength. -------------- Only a man who knows what it is like to be defeated can reach down to the bottom of his soul and come up with the extra ounce of power it takes to win when the match is even. steve |

700lbs off the box for a single without support gear.
|
2005/02/28, 03:39 PM
yea,I have always had problems with flexibility...could never touch my toes....sitting or standing....heh....weight lifting has actually improved my strength...for me I think it's lack of hip strength rather than hamstring strength because when I do deadlifts, it's pretty much all back and hamstrings....my hamstrings quite a bit stronger than my quads in fact...
I think I'll stick with what's been working for me so far....I think I can hit at least 500 by the end of the year....on squat... Also...does anyone know ways to prevent going way lower than parallel.?? ....Because I have a difficulty judging parallel...and when I do go past parallel, the momentum carries me down even lower.....last time my butt touched my calves on both reps....and I don't think it was very good for my knees.... | |
