I posted a similar msg about L-carnitine sometime ago. I heard that L-carnitine is a muscle enhancer and a great fat burner. If i take l-carnitine without exercising, will i still lose fat but at the same time prevent muscle mass build up? Cos the moderator said that exercising and taking l-carnitine will cause muscle build up. I generally want to lose weight and i have a bottle of L-carnitine from GNC with me now. Don't Know whether i should take it.

I want to carry on exercising but i do not want to build up muscle especially in my legs. I run alot. I used to take L-carnitine before my runs but i realised that my muscles grew by quite a bit. What would your advice be? My aim is to burn fat and of course remain healthy since exercise is very important. Thank You

No. Supplements in general will only hope if you exercise and eat right. You must do this in order for anything to happen, plain and simple.

L-Carnitine is an amino acid...its job is to maximize the retention of lean muscle while dieting. Helps convert stored fat into energy and keeps blood sugar levels stable. We have large stores of carnitine in our bodies anyway, it is your so called fat burning "oven" so to speak. Can be very beneficial if you are taking any fat burners to insure the fat is properly burned. By itself though, just media hype. Exercise and diet are essential for Carnitine to do anything.

I also understand that protien is very important if i were to try to lose weight. Do i take more proteins or just the normal amounts while cutting down on the carbs?
