Hey
I wanted to know if working out late in the evening is bad or good! I work out 5 - 7 days a week doing 40 minutes of cardio and 2wice a week doing weights and cardio and swim everytime! I go to the gym at 8pm until 10! Is that ok or should i aim to go about 5pm! Wouldn't it be better to go in the evening since you will burn all the food you ate during the day! I usually eat a couple of bannans and a bowl of cereal after! :) any suggestions?

That is not enough nutrition after a workout no matter when you work out. I happen to be of the belief that the earlier you can work out, the better, the more time you have to nourish your body before nightime fasting. In your case, I would up your resistance training to at least 3 times per week, 4 would be even better. In your profile you simply state you want to get firm and toned. Well, resistance training is your engine to get you there. Muscle (lean tissue) will greatly aid your fat loss. Combined with cardio and proper diet(protein), you will increase your lean tissue and burn your fat.

If you are working out in the evening, try to at least do your cardio on an empty stomach. This way you can tap in to your fat stores. Late afternoon, or early morning is better, unless you can adjust your eating time.
Like bb1fit said...improve your diet. Especially after your training. Get some good protein and good carbs.

I agree with CARIVAN. I've read somewhere that the best time to do cardio is early in the morning before you eat any carbs. That's so you use your stored fat to make energy. But I understand, I have a hard time doing anything real early in the morning.

Think I read that in a men's fitness magazine.

Howdy,

An early morning workout is the best. Since you didn't eat all night, most of your carbohydrate stores are used up (the brain needs it's glycogen). So when you start working out, you start buring fat much quicker. Also you can have a good meal afterwards and still use the calories throughtout your busy day. Plus working out early will rev up your metabolism and cause you to burn more calories just doing your usual daily stuff.
You should have a small meal/low carb at night, because the later you eat, the less of that you use for general energy, and the more it will get stored as FAT. Also working out late might cause you problems with going to sleep for up to 3 hours after excercising.

Hope this helps
