So I try to maintain a good diet. And for the most part, I do. While at home, I control what I eat and get all the good stuff I need. However, I work 2nd shift (2pm to 10pm) at the office, and that's where my diet gets a little messy. I always pack myself a tuna sammich to eat as a snack around 3pm, but when 6 rolls around the menus come out and we have our daily debate of what to order. I try to order sensibly, like chicken, and I don't gorge myself on large portions - but still, I can't imagine restaurant prepared meals are very healthy. This is where most of my fat intake comes from.

I know the obvious answer is to prepare my own meals and bring them to work with me, but I'd rather not. Not only because it would be inconvienent, but we also get compensated for our meals, and that's hard to refuse.

Anyway - Am I wrong to think that ordering a pasta dish or some grilled chicken is extremely bad for me? (I try to sway the group away from pizza or Chinese whenever I can)

If you are serious and dedicated about living a healthy life and gaining quality muscle, then you will have to make sacrifices no matter what. It really all depends on how bad you want it. If you could prepare healhy, nutrient dense meals, then who cares if your office orders out and you get compensated for the meals. The problem I feel with restraunts is that you never know what the deal is with the food. Good luck.

I'd have to agree with Dahayz. If you must get something ordered out, get salad greens with grilled chicken breast and low fat dressing. I'd think it would be the lesser of the evils.

Yeah, the both of you are right. I was just hoping that somebody would say, "Go ahead and order out all you want"! :)

But I know that's not the case. Any suggestions for good foods that can be prepared ahead of time and reheated later? I have chicken for lunch everyday, so I'm looking for other ideas.

My company pays for lunch on Friday's for all the employees.
They order out every week, and they can't figure out why I'm never there. LoL

Tuna in those pouches is good. You can eat it right out of the pouch. Boiled eggs..I just don't eat the yolks. Carrot sticks, cottage cheese, kidney beans. Those are the kinds of things I take to work with me. I don't have a way to reheat food, so I take things that I can just take out of the refrigerator and eat.

Generally restaurants are happy to accomodate if you just want a plain grilled seasoned chicken breast with some steamed veggies.. Try asking next time you order and see what they can do.
