I have been on the Atkins diet since August and am wondering if it is time to make a change. I have lost 60 lbs. in this time. I am concerned that if I add carbs back into my diet in the amount recommended here that I will put the weight back on. My main focus is toning, although I would like to continue to lose body fat. Also, what is the best way to track my intake. I travel for work so I eat out more than the average person.

I'd check with one of the more experienced here on what your protein/carb/fat intake should be. I found that the nutrition plan here had me too high in carbs and calories for losing weight.

I was told that 1gram protein per pound, .75gram carb per pound, & .25gram fat per pound was a good plan. Protein and carbs are 4 calories per pound and fat is 9. So, a 200lb person wanting to lose weight would have 200g protein, 150g carb, and 50g fat for 1850 calories a day. This has worked for me.

Keep in mind that losing weight by diet alone is not really healthy. It should be a combination of diet and exercise.

I found that eating out for me is bad. I never know what they cooked the food in or how it was prepared. Did they use butter or olive oil? Is that chicken really grilled on a grated grill or was it put on a flat grill with all the grease from other foods? These are the things that go through my mind. I bring foods with me to work. Tuna,Chicken,Turkey,Salmon in those pouches are great. No refrigerator needed and you can just open them and eat them right out of the pouch. Kidney beans are another one. If you took a small cooler, you could do the cottage cheese, egg whites (boiled), salad, etc. instead of eating out.

I made an excel spreadsheet to track my intake. I created a journal of sorts with space for 6 meals a day and plugged in formulas to add up all of the protein/carb/fat grams and convert them into daily calories.

If you have access to a lap top computer and the internet while you are travelling try Fitday.com.

They have a great food tracking feature that is easier to use and has more food available in smaller portions than the one on this site and it is free. It will also track nutients and help you figure out what you need to supplement.
