Hey all,

I haven't been working in over a month, my girlfriend is really busy with school finals and work, so I sit at home and do pretty much nothing all day... I found a job that I start this week, but right now I'm really depressed. I haven't been to the gym in about a week because I just don't care, I'm not eating much at all, I started smoking again, and I really don't care that much about anything.

I really want to get out of this rut, but I don't know if I can or how I can do it.

It's affecting my relationship with her because I want to spend time with her because I'm really lonely, but she gets mad because I have nothing to do and I'm wanting to spend every minute with her.

I just don't know what to do, and I don't know where to find my motivation in life anymore

Well now is the time when you REALLY need the gym. The girlfriend took up alot of your time and now you are feeling the voids. I'm not telling you what to do, butI would be right in there. You will feel better, and your gf will see you are trying, and this will not make her feel bad.
Hope this helps kiddo!

I agree with carivan, hartsoup. You really got to get out and go to the gym - by doing something that is hard to do, may help pull you out of the rut you appear to be in. Do things just for "you". You need to take care of yourself and treat yourself like the special person you are. Im rooting for you buddy! Please take consolation in the fact that you aren't alone in feeling like this - we all go through it from time to time, some more so than others. I hope you will get over it soon and feel great because you overcame it. Chin up! Keep us informed ok?

Hey hartsoup, find out about community sport activities. Group volleyball, softball, flag football, etc. A great way to stay active, meet new people and possibly grow some friendships that will fill the void when your girlfriend is not around! Its great to be around other people so get out there man!

Thanks for all your support guys!

Things have been awesome today, I was really bummed this morning, the depression was the worst that it's been... I called my girlfriend and she sounded like she really didn't want to talk to me... but I called a friend afterwords and went to see her and my Godson for a bit, and it totally helped. It was nice to get out of the house and talk to people about my problems and stuff.

I wasn't feeling a TON better when I was out of the house with my friend, but I got a phone call from a job and they start me Thursday for sure, so that cheered me up quite a bit. At this point I was still worried about my girlfriend because I thought she wasn't happy with me at all and I didn't think I was going to hear from her for a while. I got home and she had left me an MSN message saying she wants to hang out with me tommorow, wished me luck with the job stuff and all that stuff.

I'm quite a bit happier now, wish I wouldn't have started smoking again. I just have to get back in the workout routine on top of my 11 hour days. It's gonna be tough to get motivated after doing labour for 11 hours :(

Anyways, just wanted to thank all of you that helped me out in this post, it really helped hearing from people that are supporting me even though they don't really know who I am!

Thanks guys,
-Mike

man i was like this too...be happy though for what you got. you still got the girl, you got a job, now you need something different in your life.

working out will help, but i highly recommend either a new hobby or new people-oriented activity...depending on what kind of person you are, these mentally stimulating activities can really change your perspective.

Keep us posted on what is going on...it really helps to get advice from all of us..especially all of us who have experienced similar matters. We can all get into our own pity parties....and I've been there...(was out of work for 6 months - two years in a row....bet them odds!) But then you read about someone who was in a far worse situation than you...and they pulled themeselves out with the big D...........determination..............determination to not let the bad in life pull you down and drown you........to continue to try, each day...to do a little better with your self image.............etc. Life is not a bed of roses, I think for every good moment - there is a bad...and for some of us.....hmmmm...more bad than good...........but things always have a way to work out...you will see! DO GOOD THINGS....and good things (I swear by this!) will happen for you. GLad to see you are starting a new job! See, things will get back on the right track...and keep working out..........it does the body good!
