Out of these three, is oatmeal the "best"? I really like the other two better so that would lead me to believe that oatmeal is the healthier of the three.

I have never had maltomeal and I'm not sure what it is. But oatmeal is better than cream of wheat.

The best thing is old fashioned oats...not instant oatmeal.

Just take a look at the ingredients. If it says it is made from enriched flour/oats/wheat etc, then it isn't the good type of carb.

Basically the grain is composed of the bran, endosperm and the germ layers. Enriching the grain involves removing the outter bran germ layers, which is where the majority of nutrition is. They then "enrich" it by replacing a few of the 20+ nutrients they just stripped. They do this to make the product more marketable by allowing it to last longer for shipping, storing and ultimately sitting on the store shelves. Sometimes it is chemically bleached for nothing other than making it look "prettier" to the consumer.

So the whole grain, all natural, stone ground, etc types are better for you than anything that says enriched on it. Also, the best way to store grain products is to freeze them to prevent the breakdown of the nutrients.
