Just wondering - I find that I sometimes I get major chills after working out - about an hour or so following the workout. I was wondering if this is just my body reacting to the slower internal pace, or could I be lacking a specific nutrient in my body?

Do you drink cold water after your workout? I heard somewhere that this was a bad thing, the water should be tap temperature so that it doesnt shock the body too much. Also, I would imagine you are going back into an air conditioned room after heating up your body with all the exercises.

Its actually your body's way of responding to the work you just put it through. You raised your own inner temperature and that is why the chills, it is actually shivering and burning calories at the same time.
It is important to keep warm at this time as the body's resistance is very low while this is happening.

jhadams - actually, I am at home when the chills start - not in an a/c environement at all. Thanks for the input.

Well I certainly like the idea that it is burning calories Ivan!

When I am "chilling", would I be also more suseptible to catching colds etc. than I would be, say, a day later?

I like to wear a pair of dark glasses when i am "chilling"

*chuckles*

I meant what Ivan was saying, though he said it much better. The goosebumps I figured were from a/c, ours is always running in Florida!

Hey jha...I open my door and it was like air conditioning. It was 28 here! :( Forgot to turn on the heat inside and it was 62 ! yikes.

Yes Azon, very good chance to catch a cold when your chilling, at that time your body is using everything it has to keep warm, thats why a person shivers, and thats when the germs can get us. So cuddle up to someone!

chills after a workout, I believe that is sitting or lying and just taking it easy isn't!

Again your body is returning to a normal body temp, thus adjusting to the environmental. So this would cause chilling and the feeling of being cold. Like Ivan said keep your self warm and slowly bring your body temp down to a normal. Sometimes a lukewarm shower or bath with epson salts is good.

I do sweat lodge ceremonies. Bringing the body temp right up high, using naturally cool water we rinse the sweat off. Some have experienced chills after this, thus needing to cool down natually. Its a shock to the body when heating up and cooling down. Is health though.
