This is kind of a weird question but I was just wondering if anyone knew the average body fat % of male bodybuilders (professional or amateur) in the offseason (by this I mean non-competition). What is an acceptable or minimum amount of body fat that a regular male needs to gain mass? Approximately ofcourse.

I personally try to keep in the 12% range, anything over that and it is time for a "hardening" phase. this is my choice though, I find it much easier to stay leaner and try to gain good solid muscle weight rather than take the all out approach and gain a bunch of fat, and then have to diet like crazy. We all approach things differently though. I think the more lean tissue you have, the more lean tissue you attract, and the same with fat.
