Hey folks,
I'm trying to balance my body out. My right arm is much much stronger than my left. So I've begun doing dumbells instead of barbells. My question is this - I am currently using the same weight on both arms and doing alternating curls. When my left gives out, I stop... even though my right could keep going. Is this how people balance out?

Thanks
Keith

Try pushing your left beyond what it can do. There are some techniques that you can use for this. Definitely working with dumbbells will help!

Good luck!

How long have you been lifting?

I had the same problem when about 3 months after I started lifting. I started using barbells and machines alot more. I also concentrated on form so I did not cheat my weaker arm. It took about 6 months for my weaker arm to catch up to my stronger one. Hope this helps.

Yeah, same here. It balances out after six months or so--depending on your intensity.

I've been lifting on-and-off since 1997. My left arm has always been substantially weaker than my right. It took me this long to switch to dumbells because I like barbells. I've been using barbells and machines in the past and I always felt that my right was taking most of the load so my right would always grow bigger than my left... but then again my arms grow (really) slow and maybe I just need to hit 'em further.

Anyway thanks for all the advice everyone

I have a similar problem. When I am curling, my left arm feels tight, but seems like it could keep going. However, my right arm, does not feel as tired, but I have difficulty continuing. I can still do more with my right, but it feels week, and tends to shake and want to give out. I try not to over do either arm, b/c I am not sure which one is truly the weaker. Help if possible. Thanks.
