i have been working out for the past 6 months and just recently tried supersets in order to add some variation to my workout routine and to constantly shock my body as well. i was hoping doing supersets would add mass to my frame but a friend of mine told me that supersets are for cutting and not bulking. is there any truth to this?

Cutting is a phase in bodybuilding when you "lean" out the excess fat/water you may have accumulated through the mass gain phase. This is also a big part in contest prep. Do a search...this has been asked dozens of times.

Yes and no. Working in supersets will give you an aerobic work out as well and then your friend is right of saying that we often use this technic when we are cutting.
BUT dramatically changing a work out will shock the muscles and give it a higher stimulation which can lead to construction of more lean muscle mass.
Welcome in here by the way!

thanks for the clarification. one last question though, does this apply to drop sets as well?

Drop sets are similar in that it is also a shock technique. So are strip sets and giant sets.
Good luck!
