i admit my upper body is weak compared to lower body. but i can't find a happy medium where i'm able to complete both the exercises for my arms and shoulders. if i go hard on the 1st exercise, i can't do the 2nd. and if i do what i consider is enough on the 1st so that i can finish the 2nd exercise, it's never enough to make me feel it the next day.
does any one have any suggestions?
yesterday i just pushed it as hard as i could on the 1st exercise and skipped the 2nd. i feel the effects today. out of the 2 exercises which one should i concentrate on : the isolation or compound movement?

Have you thought about switching the order and days for your lifts, i.e., a push then a pull exercise? For example, Do chest, then biceps on one day; back then triceps the next, etc...

herein lies the problem:
my workout called for 1 arm extensions and cable pushdowns the same day. i did the cable pushdowns and went to do the 1 arm extensions and couldn't get the weight that i KNOW i can normally lift from behind my head. not even for one rep. my arms were immobilized.
i guess i'm trying to figure out which exercises i should skip if i'm not going to be able to do them due to fatigue/failure. i mean as long as i'm doing at least one exercise per muscle group, i should be fine, RIGHT?

I would still do both exercises and try to push out what you can. Failure is what will make you stronger. If you can, get help, reverse resistance is good when fatigue sets in to still work the muscles out. (Ie, on a bench press, get help on the way up and then take it on your own down slowly) I find that sometimes I can't get all the reps I might have before, but I push out everything I can. (this was alot more evident when I switched to only 1 minute between reps, used to do 3,4, 5, 30, lol)
