So this was my first full week of weight lifting. I’ve really been getting into it. I like having a different body part ache each day of the week. I can finally share gym war stories with my girlfriends. I am blessed (or cursed) with THREE girlfriends who are personal trainers. One is pregnant, one lives too far away from me, and the other I’ll be lifting with next week… Alas, like a two year old, I wanted to do this (weight lifting/getting in shape) “on my own”. I’ve recently come to the conclusion that having a more experienced friend along when I lift will be a very good thing. Two days ago was my chest day… I did pretty well on the incline presses but when I got to the machine wide chest press my brain quit functioning. The lightest weight I could find for the machine was 25lbs. (I was in the He-Man area of the gym) I knew it was too heavy for me but I decided to go ahead and try it out anyway (BEWARE: If you laugh at my wimpy weight I’ll remember who you are and come after you when I’m buff). My sets are 12 12 10 and 10…. I actually got 5 3 1 and ¾ (the ¾ being me getting it almost out but not quite). I should have stopped but I think I was channeling Zena, Warrior Princess or something. I just kept trying, and trying and ended up hurting myself. Looks like cool leather outfits and a nifty theme song are not in my future… *sigh* Nope, it’s all about the ratty T-shirt and comfy sweats… just the type of clothes to wear when you smell like a giant breath-mint (I got that muscle relaxer icy-hot stuff). The good news is that my sinuses are VERY clear. I just realized that I could have taken all the weights off and just lifted the bar… damn, stupidity hurts!

At least you tried thats the important thing. And you know for next time! Hurrah! Yet another woman converted to entering the 'he-man' zone! Or should that be 'She-Ra'?

Ha! Good lesson.. and entertaining! Your very lucky to have personal training friends! Now, start using their knowledge so you don't learn anything else the hard way! ;) I'm just giving you a hard time, from your note I can tell you have the right attitude - live and learn and continue working at it!

Thanks everyone. I'm going to be taking a free weights class and a Hatha Yoga class this summer at the local JC. I'm sure that will help me cut down on my bone-head moments- maybe I'll get my theme song? I've always wanted a theme song. Some cool little sound byte when I enter the gym... like the bionic woman when she's about to kick ass. Hey Kalanchoe did She-Ra have a theme song? :)
