I was thumbing through a well known nutrition and BB magazine and came across an article which I found to be rather disheartening. The article was written by an independant research lab. This lab took a variety of protein bars and removed the lableing and sent them out to analyzed by an outside lab. Being identified by only a number the results were astonishing. The Detour Bars are I repeat ARE to good to be true. The results show that instead of the 9g of fat the package reads they really contain 13g of fat, instead of the 6g of sugar they contain 19g. They claim 32 g of protein they only contain 23g. The label also claims 21g of carbs there are really 30, they claim 3g of fiber there is really only 1.7, They claim only 209 cal. there are really 310. So all I have to say is be careful what you are putting in your bodies and buyer beware. You might as well eat snickers bars Good luck!!!!

How about the Nitro-Tech bars? Did they test them? What were the results?-------------- ~Jennifer http://www.gwindalyn.com If you dont stand for something, you will fall for anything. |

Good post! I don't know who or what lab did the test, but I have eaten these twice, and both times I said to myself, no way these have the stats they say. I made a mental note to myself the only other time I will ever eat these is for a "treat". Use your senses. Good post. What mag was that?-------------- As far as genetics go, the skies the limit. Thats the way most protein bars should be treated, as treats. MuscleTech is probably the biggest culprit with handing out misinformation, so, like bowers said, beware. Just about all protein bars are glorified candy bars with vitamins and minerals thrown in for good measure.

Ditto to you dahayz. Whenever anyone asks me about bars, I tell them use in emergencies only! I personally use them only if I am in some place where it is impossible to have any kind of food, I can at least "sneak" bites of these. My personal top rating is the Met Rx bar (metomyosin). Only 2 gr. of sugar. For instance I have to attend a graduation tonight. Well, there will be no food allowed in the auditorium, so I will be armed with a bar to help stem the tide. But this is very rare. The vyo-pro bars from AST are decent. Most of them are as mentioned, glorified candy bars. And the process they are made under? And how old are they? And you know they use the cheapest of ingredients. Too many down side things compared to value to use often in my book.-------------- As far as genetics go, the skies the limit. So how do these companies get away with putting a nutritional label with false information? I really like those detour bars. I'm going to be mad if this is true. Post the magazine you received the info from when you get a chance.

He put it in another post:
The name of the lab that did the testing was Convance Laboratories Inc. they are an independent nutritional testing firm. The article I read was an Industry Watchdog article written by Rehan Jalali. This article primarily dealt with Detour Bars and Next Protein -------------- Gramma |

Some information on that author:
http://www.thinkmuscle.com/articles/jalali/bio.htm If he works/worked for EAS could his article be biased? This is the only article I can find by him regarding protein bars: http://www.thinkmuscle.com/articles/jalali/protein-bars-revealed.htm -------------- ~Jennifer http://www.gwindalyn.com If you dont stand for something, you will fall for anything. |

Despite the fact of whether or not he is biased, protein bars honestly should not be part of a sound and healthy nutrition plan, like bb1 and I have stated, eat only in an EXTREME emergencey. Protein bars are junk that are not made with the best of ingredients. Like bb1 stated as well, to many downsides to use on a regular basis.

Although that is disappointing, I am not surprised. I agree these bars are nothing but glorified candy bars. Nothing can replace good food. I use MRP's sparingly and these bars even more spraringly. Thanks for the info.

Great post and thread. I thought the bars were too good to be true also.-------------- You can walk to anywhere you want, it only takes time. Ivan Montreal Canada (aka SpongeBob Square Pants to some!) |
