I was wondering what is everyone's favorite abdominal workout that gets you the best results?

Mine is my favorite. Very simple and to the point, intensity. 10-15 minutes tops and done. 50,000 exercises are not needed. These are a product of everyone trying to sell ab belts to ab rockers. Basics here are best. Then the rest is done in the kitchen.
2 warmup sets, one real light, second 20% heavier.
3 sets of 10 weighted overhead pulley rope crunches
If you have access to a abdominal machine, superset 3 sets of 10 of these.
3 sets of weighted leg raises(30 degrees below bench and 30 above)as many as you can get.(place dumbbell between feet)
Thats it...follow your diet. You will have excellent abs.

i train my abs 3 times a week, sometimes 2 if i can't make it.
on one day I just do:
3 sets, 20 reps of weighted leg raises
4 sets, 20 reps of weighted crunches
on the next workout:
3 sets, 20 reps of weighted seated leg tucks
4 sets, 20 reps of weighted twisted crunches
each workout takes about half an hour, because i do the reps really slow and contract the muscles for a couple of seconds at the top.

Does everyone work all three areas each time with different exercises? Does anyone do upper abs one day, lower abs one day and obliques one day. We mix it up like that sometimes. Does anyone think it makes any difference what order you work them in?

Another great workout for abs that saves the back are the rubber balls and the roman chair. There are a variety of different workouts that can target all areas of the abs. I've completed a 6 month personal study using these two different techniques. For the first three month, i worked my abs three times a week keeping the reps around 15 completing no more than 6 sets. At the end of the three months I had very large abs and spent the next three completing more sets and reps which gave me better definition. The end results were tramendous in comparison to where I started. If anyone has had trouble defining there midsection I seriously recommend giving a shot. Of course i followed a healthy diet and proper cardiovasculiar training.

I do abs 5 times a week (when I'm giving classes) but I only do around 5-10 mins each time so I wouldn't really call it overtraining.......
One of my favorites is lying leg raises, I like to get a great sqeeeeze in my "lower" abs.
I really work my abs hard when I'm lifting weights as well so I personally wouldn't want to work my abs any harder.
Oh abs (crunches) on a big medecine ball is great too, gives a great stretch!!

In the June 2002 issue of M&F Hers there was a 45 day program for abs that really worked for my husband and I. It has 3 levels of difficulty so you can do it over and over. We both lost an inch from all 3 ab areas by the end of the program. It was a different workout every other day for abs with all kinds of tips on nutrition and cardio on the inbetween days. So far that has given us the best results. Right now we are trying bb1fit's suggested workout.

Both, I use the bench when I'm working with one or two persons and use the mat when we are a group (class).
Both exercises are hard, you just have to concentrate about sqeeeezzing!!!
