I am new to this site and have a question concerning protein powders. My goals are to lose approx 35lbs and tone up. I have changed my diet to lower fat, watch carbs and increase protein - about 20% fat - 35% carbs - 45% protein. I am looking for the right type of protein powder to take. I have done several searches on freetrainers but most are looking to bulk up not lose weight so I am confused. I have been taking 100% whey protein from GNC but have seen several posts weary of GNC products. Basically, which type of protein is best to accomplish my goal and what are some suggested brands ( please comment on its taste also ). Everyone on this site is so helpful and knowledgeable so any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the ignorance but I am trying to learn

Thanks for the response RW. I do have a couple of more questions.
Some have told me that soy protein will work better than whey to obtain my goals of losing weight and toning up ( not bulking ). I am on the home work out program without machines or weights. Would soy be best right now?
Would taking a multivitamin be recommended?
Are putting the egg whites in the shake safe? Or are the egg whites ok ( unlike raw egg )?
I know it is three questions but I was on a roll
Thanks for help from anyone

Why not opt for a blended protein? This will contain whey and soy and eggwhite, etc. This way you get the best of all, and slower absorbtion to boot. If you have a pure whey, as RW says, liquid eggwhite is bought at most stores very cheaply, aobut $1.19 or so a carton. By the way, it is ultra pastureized in answer to your question, so you can mix it directly into your shakes. Add some fat free cottage cheese, also excellent for slowing down the process. It is a casein protein, which actually gels in the stomach before digestion, causing a slow release of amino acids. And taking a multivitamin is always good! You could always add some extra Vit. c.

Thanks for the quick answer BB1FIT. Can you recommend any good blended protein powders? One that I will not have to take a mortgage out for and that tastes fairly good. Also, on the egg white questions, approx how much egg white should I put in an 8 oz shake?
I have the cootage cheese down to an artform. I have about 1 cup per day.

I was able to EAS precision protein for a real good price. Would i still need to add the egg whites? I only drink the shakes when I get up and after a workout. Thanks for any input

If you are only drinking them then, then pure whey is fine and no need to add eggwhite. If you drink any more later in the day, I would suggest about 6 tbsp. of liquid eggwhite, which is 10 gr. of protein at 50 calories, or you could go higher. It will never hurt you. In the evening, adding some flax oil is a good idea.
