I just wanted your input on the topic of Tofu.
Firstly does it actually contain protein?
I heard that it does but that protein from tofu isn't as good as protein from meat.

Anyone here eat tofu?

Any info/experiences/recipes regarding tofu would be appreciated.

I had tofu once. I hated it. Maybe it just wasn't fixed right. I have no idea about the nutritional value. I'd be interested to know what people do with it besides eating it plain, because that is just gross to me. :p I felt like i was eating a mouthful of fat (because of the texture, not taste).

My wife just bought some! I don't understand what possessed her, but I am not eating it!! LOL....I did have it in chili once. At a vegetarian couples house, and if you didn't know it was tofu, it actually wasn't bad. Had the texture of meat. I think it depends on what type you buy, there are different textures I believe. But, in the end, I will leave it to vegetarians! LOL....

Tofu has between 9 and 13 grams of protein per 4 ounces (depending on the type of tofu). It is also a complete protein, containing all 8 essential amino acids. A great health food all around. You do have to know how to prepare it properly to make it interesting. You probably won't enjoy raw uncooked tofu. However, it can be steamed, stir fried, sauteed, braised, deep fried, etc. It will take on the flavor of anything it is cooked with so it is really flexible and can be really tasty.

I like Tofu and I mix it with my salad, in my eggs, with veggies etc
Tons of great recipies BUT one thing; always eat it with some herbs, spices or sauce since tofu alone is not that fun of a taste........

I actually use it to replace 1/2 of the usual skim milk in my protein shakes...toss it (soft blend) into the blender along with some fat free vanilla yogurt! Adds a nice thick milkshakey texture to it! :)

I buy the firm, slice it like cheese and put it in a sandwich; cube it and scramble it in eggs, stir-fry or salad. Because its so bland, you can add it to anything, even your oatmeal.

I've been vegetarian for almost 12 years and needless to say I've eaten a lot of tofu in that time. If you ask me, plain, uncooked tofu is vile. Tofu takes on the flavor of whatever you cook it with, so I have found that it can be very tasty in some dishes and gross in others. For me, the way it is prepared is important. I like it fried so it is crispy on the outside. The soft, mushy texture grosses me out what it's fixed like that. Also, I like to cube it small. It seems to absorb flavor better that way. If you like Thai food. Try it instead of chicken sometime. I found that most Thai places do an excelent job with tofu.

I use to eat White Wave, Garden Tofu. It comes with herbs and it's quite tasty. Also, Light Life makes vegan beef, chorizzo, and a bunch of other stuff that is amazingly tasty. Sometimes I would just mix in a little chili/garlic powder...but on its own it tastes great.
