Hi guys...
Because i do quite alot of cardio, i tend to eat quite alot of carbs.
Problem is, I eat starchy ones! i.e. Pasta, white potatoes, bread.
Have any of you guys got a better alternative instead if eating those starchy carbs, but will also give me the carbs i need?
Are they easy to cook?

Thanks alot,

I'd say fruits and vegetables are the best carbs to eat. But as for bread, potatoes, amd pasta, it is better to eat the "brown" aka whole wheat versions. Potatoes..use yams. I guess they're still starchy, but a better form of the carbs. I hope this helps

It would probably be best to stay away from the white bread & potoatoes and stick with whole fiberous grains. As far as the pasta goes I can sympathise with you on that one I can't eat enough of it. However past is only moderately high on th GI scale, scoring about a 70 out of a 100 and don't forget that by mixing a high GI food with low GI foods you can lower the total GI of the meal significantly, so my advice would be to just watch the total carbs of the meal to ensure they are not to high and to mix in alot ov vegtables in with the pasta as they are typically low GI foods & also full of nutrients. As far as fruits go you should be careful of how much fruit you consume, sure its true they are nutrient rich & low on the GI scale, however the carbs in fruit sugar are very simple & are easily coverted to fat as they only stay in tho blood strean for a very short time. A couple of tips on selecting low GI foods- high protien foods are typicall low GI- low carb foods are typically low GI however some high carb foods are also low GI (for example whole grains such as oats).

I use whole wheat egg noodles a lot, also whole wheat macaroni. The whole grain pastas are more satisfying I think and also slightly higher protein than refined pastas. I love ww egg noodles tossed w/ grilled chicken, broccoli, and a little feta cheese, maybe some red pepper flakes. Check around; there are a lot of different things out there. I don't know if you bother making your own bread, sometimes I do, sometimes I don't, but if you do, you can experiment w/ different whole grain flours - I have a bread machine recipe for whole grain cottage cheese bread. Also in most recipes you can sub soy powder for about 1/3 of the flour w/out sacrificing taste or texture, and in fact I think the soy powder (not soy flour, that is different; soy powder is in the refrigerated section o/ the health food store; is very cheap if you get it in bulk) adds sort of a nutty flavor that is nice. :)

I stay away from pasta completely and stick to whole grain dark breads like Rye. I also limit my fruits.

The majority of my carbs come from green vegetables and sweet potatoes. Other ideas:

Sweet Potatoes & Yams
Pinto, Black, Kidney, and Lima Beans
Oat Bran
Brown Rice
Whole wheat or Spinach Pasta
100% Stoneground Whole Wheat Bread
Green Leafy Lettuce (Green Leaf, Red, Leaf, Romaine)
Broccoli
Asparagus
String Beans
Okra
Spinach
Bell Peppers
Brussel Sprouts
Cauliflower
Cabbage
Celery
Cucumber
Eggplant
Green or Red Pepper
Onions
Pumpkin
Garlic
Tomatoes
Zucchini
