Hi, I am a 49 year old male in relatively poor shape who has decided to try to repair that problem. I started biking about 5 weeks ago and weight training last week. Someone told me not to train my legs if I'm biking. I bike about 7 miles every morning and about 12 on Saturday. Please advise if I should bypass the weight training for my legs?

Thanks

I would still train my legs at least one day a week, it can only make them stronger.

NO!!!!! Just go lighter on weeks where you bike more leg training is a vital to lean muscle mass building. It, squats for the most part, release a hormone that allows you to build the muscle that will help you burn fat. Just tale it easy for the first month or so but defintely start to do legs!

Squats are really a very good thing, but in my world, Deadlifts are King!!!!!!!!

I agree, train your legs! I used to ride about 70 miles a week and thought that was enough...wrong! I hate squats they kill me, this is probably because I neglated my legs in the beginning, since I have been doing sqauts I have made some excellent progress all round..I hate them but love them at the same time if you know what I mean. Good Luck!

There is no reason to stop training your legs because you bike. If anything, you should be training the legs. It will give you speed and stamina.
