YA BB1 is right... I have been at this only six months and have had a great sucess, yet I am not near the cutting phase (In my opinion).
Basically getting cut is losing fat... You always have some muscle below the surface, so if you loose the fat, the muscle will show.
If you have very little muscle when this happens you will look scrwany. If you have a lot of muscle you will look buff.
The bottom line is, eat right, exercise, and lift as much as you can.
How much "volume" did you actually gain in a month?
If it wasw a lot, that is another sign of being a beginner. You can make great and huge gains at first, and then they slow down and become really difficult.
You'll hear it time and again. "It was easy to loose the fifty pounds, but the last ten were horrible!" That's because it takes about 10% determination to loose excess fat, but it takes 120% determination to get buff and or/cut.
So, stick to a great diet, keep up the weights, and cardio can help a bit as well. Let us know how it goes.
