i just joined the whole exercise and diet thing. the one thing that i have questions with is that i have been doing the atkins diet and i wanted to know if anyone else has tried this and what their progress has been

Welcome to FT. You'll get plenty of answers for your questions here.
On Atkins - I tried a similar diet for a short period of time and lost weight but very soon after I re-introduced carbs. It was a way of rectifying my eating habits, which were bad, more than anything else.
Wouldn't say it was good long term though. Check out the site cos there's plenty of information and advice on nutrition available.
