Okay, I'm kinda new to weightlifting (off and on for 3 years but really steady for 5 months) and I was wondering what is the difference between seated calf raises and standing calf raises. Does one hit the calf muscles differently?
Standing calf raises develope more the overall mass of the calf, while seated calf raises tend to hit more the lower and the outer portion of the calves.
-------------- As far as genetics go, the skies the limit. You are limited only by your mental perception of it.
Standing calf raises develop more the outer calf muscle (gastrocnemius). The soleus lies underneath and is used more when the knee is bent and the strength potentional of the gastrocnemius is reduced. Gastrocnemius crosses both the knee and the ankle. Soleus is mostly under gastrocnemius and crosses only the ankle.
