Hey everyone.
I’m looking for a few answers regarding creatine, when the best times are to take it, and what to avoid in your diet while taking creatine.
I’m about 6'7 and weigh around 247lbs; my diet consists of cereal or toasts every morning and a bread roll filled with two strips of lean ham everyday for lunch. For dinner I have and either pasta with fish or a chicken breast or a steak with mixed vegetables. I resistance train every second day an hour about 1 hour after dinner.
Could someone please guide on when the best time during the day/night that I take my 5 grams of creatine and what I should cut out of my diet to maximize its effect.
I have read in more than one article that its helpful to take creatine in the morning on your off days and before and after your routine.
Does this mean to take 5 grams in the morning, ten grams (with the same mix) before and ten grams (again with the same mix) after you routine???
I realize this is a long (and probably annoying) post but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
From what you’ve said on your profile you would be better of leaving the ceratine alone for now. You simply won’t notice any effects until you are pushing your limits, so I think you will just be wasting your money at the moment. Cutting down on the drinking and boosting up the cardio will have a much greater effect than any supplement.
Anyway the big problem with creatine is ask 5 different people a detailed question and you are likely to get 5 different answers. However general wisdom is to take it in cycles, I personally use 3weeks on 1 week off, most people follow something roughly along these lines. I don’t have a loading phase (take extra for the first week after my week off), though many people do.
As for what weight to take that depends upon how pure the stuff you’ve got is; best bet is to follow the manufacturers recommendations on the tub. The stuff I’m using at the moment is cut with glucose so I take a substantially larger weight to get the same amount of pure creatine. I take it about 20-30min before exercising and again about a similar time after training. On my off days I take the same amount at the same times as I would if I were training.
It is also well accepted that caffeine and alcohol should not be taken at the same time as creatine, however taking with some carbs is beneficial. Make sure you drink loads of water; creatine increases water content of your muscles this then increasing aesthetics and performance (by producing a larger volume metabolic activity). But if you don’t have lots of water in your system this effect will be less and you run the risk of dehydration. Also mix your drinks up fresh; normal powdered creatine will degrade in about 20-30min once mixed into solution.
I am not aware of any other foods that should be specifically avoided so just eat clean (as normal). Although you might want to increase your protein intake, from what you’ve said you don’t seem to get much till dinner. Finally remember don’t take any one persons opinion or any one article at face value try to read around and make your own decisions. Many people force their view because it appeared to work for them (this dose not mean it will work for you); magazines need new articles every month, and shops and manufacturers want good sales. Remember very few people advertising products have ever taken what there promoting. Looking for a miracle pill or training routine dose not work, only dedication pays, but this message won’t ever make anyone rich.

Yes I have posted this question before in a different forum but this forum is where I posted the question first.
I only posted the question again in a different forum because it first appeared that nobody would answer it in this particular forum.
You would know this "Mr" Richardjst if you read the other post properly.
Thanks erirvine for talking to answer this post in such a detailed manner. Its intelligent and motivating reply's like yours that make this a great site. I now include a more substantial amount of protein in my diet (about 280g per day).
