I just joined as a 70" 385 male w/ sedentary lifestyle seeking to tighten up and lose weight. I have been directed to consume 5,900 + calories a day and have been assigned exercises involving things like *Dips behind the back*. While this might be a great idea if I were 385 pounds of rompin stompin dynamite, it seems to be a bad idea considering my magnificent degree of flabulance. Can anyone point me to a program that actually sets you up with exercises and a diet that take your physical condition and goals into account?

And dips behind back are not as hard as you think there are many ways to do them....Give us more info to help you out.

i thought I would give you some hints here might help you out. To losse fat you need to make muscle. The way to make muscle is to lift hard and eat. Yup you gotta eat to lose. I would not say eat 5900 a day, but in your case cutting to low could be counterproductive. when you go on a very strict low calorie diet you body thinks you are in a stravation time so it slows the metabolism down, this is not good if you are trying to loose. So, and I am no great nutritional expert, but you need to find a happy medium. I would say write down everything you eat and add the cals you take in normally no trying to make it less than what you normaly eat. For at least a week then subtract 500 a day (for example say that in one day you eat 3000. minus 500 is 2500 500 less a day means 1lb loss per week). Make your diet up of a good amount of protein and veges with some fats thrown in. Go to a gym or just walk for now till you get used tot hat then add weighttraining. If you tell it here exactly what you have it will get a program for you. If there are any exercise you can not do due to equipment/lack of it or just plain can not do it ask us and someone will have a different exercise or way to do that. HOpe this helps out....

Welcome George... I would say to do whatever you can; if it tells you to do 15 reps and you can only complete 5, then you've done the best you can.
Bhardy, sure sure I believe you

All I can say is that I eat way more protein than carbs and fats. bhardy you do indeed nee carbs to build muscle as it gives the body more energy than protein. I just watcht he amt of carbs I eat and go from there.

You are right Carbs are an easier source of energy for the body. But the fact is that you muscles need protein to build the muscles, and if your body is low on protein it will start breaking down muscle matter from other muscles to build the developing muscles. This is why professional body builders are obsessed with these high protien supplements.
