forearm pain, pulled muscle?

I've been having a sharp pain rush down my forearm starting from the wrist going down to the elbow immediately after I set down a heavy dumbell or any type of weight. I did a search and it seems other people have the same problem.

I went to a chiropractor today and he thinks I pulled muscles in both forearms. The problem is, I have to stop working out arms for a month. Is there any exercises I can do to work my biceps/tris/chest without affecting my forearms? I usually do all free weight, never liked machines that much. Any suggestions would be awesome!

I don't know how you could work your upper body without gripping the bars or machine handles. Maybe you could go in the pool and strap water weights around your upper arms and do flyes and rows in the water? Or maybe you could use an ankle cuff around your upper arm with exercise bands to do pec flyes and reverse flyes. Hmmm, sounds like a challenge, I may have to go downstairs and try it with my bands - I will let you know if I figure out any useful exercises.

Okay, I went downstairs to my gym and tried some stuff with the resistance tubing.
If you put the velcro closure ankle straps around your upper arms and wrab the band around a post before clipping it to the straps you can do a pretty decent pec fly (facing away from post) and a pretty decent row (facing the post.
I don't know if it is painful for you to have straps around your forearms or not, but if it isn't you could attach the bands to the cuffs around your wrist or forearm and do bicep curls, lateral raises, triceps kickbacks.
I have a nice set of bands with all the attachments - I picked it up at powersystems.com for around $30. It is really woerth it, i use it for rotator cuff exercises, and I use it with clients a lot.

Hey thanks alot, I may try that. The arms are healing up pretty fast so it shouldn't be much longer of a wait...maybe a couple more weeks. I'm definitely gonna try the water resistance exercises...I completely forgot about that.

Hey so I worked out a couple times using different exercises that didn't cause pain in my arms and was doing good. It's been almost 2 weeks of healing so I decided to go wakeboarding. I was practicing some styling techniques and wouldn't you know, I pulled a different muscle in my forearm. So now I'm gonna be out even longer. I'll probably lose some muscle mass in my upper body from not working out, is there really such a thing as muscle memory? If so, how long will it take me to jump back?

Yes there is such a thing as muscle memory. You are young, so you should heal up pretty quickly, but you are young so you won't wait long enough and you will go out and do it again. Let yourself heal twice as long as you 'think' you should. When it feels better, give it two more weeks. Start off slowly with light weights, full range of motion and good stretching. At the sign of any pain, back off, ice it and start lower again.
Wakeboarding is too extreme for two weeks of healing!!! Dang whippersnappers! :)
I know it is hard and you get restless, go rollerblading, work on perfecting your leg workouts. Most guys neglect their legs too much anyhow.
