How does one get a book published...My family and I have started writing a book composed of our thaughts that we have going through this ordeal with my brother. Many people have told us we should give it a try. It also helps when you write your feelings down...So if any of you have knowledge on this subject...any help would be much appreciated.

In my experiences with "guerilla publishing," I've mainly created a packet that shops my work to individual publishers, focusing especially on companies preparing similar projects (I mostly write short stories, so I search for companies compiling collections by up-and-coming writers). I've known others who hire "book agents" to market their work, and have seen decent (if spotty) results with that. Personally, I would ask the advice of an English professor at a local university, since they have almost certainly been published and understand the process. I'm a complete amateur as far as this subject goes, so please don't give my words any authority. Good luck with the book....writing is a lot like exercise in its therapeutic qualities.

Forgot in the earlier post, but www.poewar.com has some good resources for writers who are just starting out.

There are several online self-publishers. Off the top of my head I can only think of www.exlibris.com. My dad had a book published a few years ago and he had to send his manuscript out to a lot of people before he got any interest. I think the internet would be the way to go now.
