I posted this somewhere else last week, but didn't get a response.

Say you are on vacation and you know you are going to be eating at least 2 meals in a restaurant. More than likely these will not meet the standards of your regular nutrition intake. They will probably be more than one of your normal meals. Is it more important for staying on track to try to stay close to your overall caloric intake, or to keep up the eating schedule you are used to? For example, even though your brunch was 1000 calories and you won't be eating dinner for 8 hours and it too will probably be 1000, should you eat a couple snacks in between and go over your caloric limit, but still stick to your eating schedule?

I would never wait 8 hours in between my meals...... (except during the night!)
My personal advice is, when on holidays don't try to continue loosing weight, eat a little of everything but just stay reasonable so you wont PUT on any weight!!

You can never go 8 hrs. between meals. This will set you up for severe lean mass loss. 1000 calories at one meal will not make up for the lost nutrition in the 8 hr. span, and then another 1000 calorie meal won't either. Within that 8 hrs., lean tissue will most likely be used for energy the body needs, thus depleteing your muscle you worked so hard for. Now, the more often this happens, your metabolism slows in response. (muscle and diet speeds up metabolism). So you start to displace your muscle to fat ratio, and well, you know what happens here. Every meal is an entity in itself. You cannot make up for one by eating a bigger one, or vice versa, starving yourself to make up for a big one. You would be much wiser even though you are going to "cheat" with a large meal, still have your quality snack between these meals. This will help to keep the metabolism up and feed your muscle.

When I go on vacations, I usually go DOPE (definitely off program eating). It is horrible. I enjoy myself though and usually manage to stay the same. Take the above advice and let me know how successful your were.

Well, I didn't get this info in time for this trip, but is great to have for future ones. The first day I did go ahead and have snacks, but the next 2....NOT! It was so hot that all I could do was drink water, the one time I remembered to take a bar with me it totally melted in the car before I got to it. Since it was my birthday I didn't worry about it too much. We had some great food though. As a side dish one night I was served julienned, deep fried, sweet potatoes. I know the frying was a no-no, but they were great tasting! And I had a wild mushroom risotto with shrimp once that was to-die-for. I guess I shouldn't be talking about this, huh? I guess it's sort of like a confession so now I feel better. We had a great time and I am back on track today.

AZ, I had an unplanned vacation last week, too. Honestly I think my body needed the break. It was tired of having to fight like an animal for every bite of lean protein. It needed a time of PLENTY so I provided one! LOL Glad you had a good trip!
