RW hit it right on. I am a HUGE believer in that "old-fahioned" supplement, liver tabs. Here is a similar post:

"They take cattle liver, remove the water, fat, and connective tissue, and then flash freeze it and make tablets.

Liver is very high (80 percent by weight) in first class utilizable protein, and from a supplemental standpoint, one of the most efficient forms. They’re great because they are a whole food. Unlike processed protein powders and other supplements, liver has a ton of naturally occurring nutritional benefits. This includes amino acids, nucleic acids, the entire B complex, Co Q 10, selenium, phosphorous, copper, zinc, Vitamins A, C, D, K, and E, cobalt, molybdenum, magnesium, manganese, potassium, calcium, GTF chromium, BCAAs, heme iron and cytochrome p-450."

Hope that helps...

If you're taking a decent amount of liver, you may not need additional aminos. But it's hard to say without knowing your goals and training...

Liver is one supplement I am never ever without! That and aminos. They are the cornerstones of my supplemental plan. You may start out with 2-3 at each meal, I have taken up to 6 per meal(in very calorie restricted times), with no problems. They help me greatly maintain strength when calorie restricted also. A forgotten supplement. They can't use girls in bikini's to sell them.

I know it's a good cheap source of protein, but do they remove the impurities? it is the liver after all. I read an old article where this trainer downed it's use because he felt it was unsanitary to eat. although he could have been trying to hype something else in it's place, can't remember.

The dessication process removes the toxins and impurities in a quality product.

Hmmm... this is interesting... if you guys are healthy then liver supplementation shouldn't be a problem. If you have fatty liver or if the liver enzymes are high, stay away from liver.

Yes, 3, and as you want, you can increase to any number you want. I take up to 6 per meal, this is usually dieting, but there is no problem doing it. It is a "whole food" derived supplement, so it will not hurt you.

Where can you get dessicated liver tabs, I read some good info on them before, but when I went to GNC and Vitamin World I got the same response, you want what? They had no clue. Any suggestions?

There are few companies that make a quality liver product. Go to www.vitaglo.com, and fill in Beverly in the search box, and look at Ultra 40. 500 for around $32.00 I believe. I should know, I am never without them....LOL

Universal Nutrition has Uni-Liver tabs 500 for $20.95; and since this is the retail cost, the store price is usually a little less since most places sell with a discount. And like Ron, I'm never without them either...

Actually the Vitamin World by my house has them. I asked the guy working there if they had them and at first he was like what. I had to spell it for them and have him check the computer for it.

What do these dessicated liver pills do?

I did a bit of quick research on them, and saw that they give you energy, but what else?

Do they help you gain lean muscle mass as well?
Should you take them right before a work out, or just at meals?

Read about halfway up the page the post by REV. Take 2-4 with each meal. Is a storehouse of B vitamins. Will greatly add to the amino acid profile of any meal, which of course will help you build lean tissue. Will help boost your strength also. Take with each meal.

It is very hard to find real dessicated liver. The ingredient list should be thus...X mg. of 4X liver concentrate, and some B-12. Each tablet should be 2 gr. of protein. You should not use this in place of a protein supplement, you would have to take way too many. You should take them in addition to a protein supplement. Best 2-4 with each meal for added/increase amino acid profile of whole foods with a rich naturally occurring substance. But they cannot take the place of a protein supplement. One scoop of any protein is going to be at least 25 gr. or more in most cases.

I finally found some desiccated liver caplets at a local health food store. It was the last two bottles in stock and the product is by Swiss Herbal. For those interested it was a health food store in Rockwood Mall in Mississauga.

Yes, especially so. Will improve the amino acid profile of each meal and help keep you stronger. It has a plethora of B vitamins and others in it also. Very worthwhile supplement.

Hi,

I am sure you guys will hate this post, but I need help. I am a woman who doesn't want to gain muscle mass but want to take desiccated liver because I don't eat meat. I get lots of protein from smoothies. I have 2 a day at 36 grams of protein each. But I want the benefits of eating meat without eating it. Do you think the liver would be enough? How many tablets a day would I take?

TY so much!! :) :)
