Yes, carbs are not the enemy, it is the type and timing that are essential to get correct.

We need all them all; carbs, protein and fat.
Cannot do without any of them for a longer period....

There is the exception, and that would be the insulin resistant person. Insulin resistance is a "killer" to some folks, and they need to know who they are to save their life. The problem is elemental. The human body uses insulin to store glycose in cells(as fat). Most of us know that glucose is sugar, but lots of us don't know that the body cannot distinguish between starches and sugar. Your body cannot tell the difference between a piece of white bread and a handful of sugar. Whole wheat is better, but really only because it is absorbed more slowly. All carbs, including but not limited to rice, corn, potatoes, and even carrots are converted into sugar in your body. In fact, a baked potato may be worse for you than eating raw glucose. so, the point here is that for some, after years of abuse, the body stops utilizing insulin well. To compensate, the pancreas makes more insulin. The results include weight gain, and increase in triglycerides, lousy cholesterol ratios, climbing blood pressure. In exteme cases, the pancreas eventually becomes exhauseted and insulin levels fall, creating type 2 diabetes. This is where such diets as the high protein diets and very little carbs other than fibrous veggies can be and should be followed for some. This is also why spiking of insulin on a regular basis if you were ever very obese(fat), or even were and lost alot of weight, your diet has to be different than most to maintain leaness and good health. May have gotten a bit in depth here, but thought this may be a good place to put this in. Yes, carbs can be your friend, just know what they do and if you fit into this latter category before indulging too much.
