Why is the grass always greener on the other side of the fence in relationships? Ex: A previous gf of mine wanted to "take a break" because she was attracted to another guy, and now I'm involved with a woman who's doing the same to her bf to be with me. I've also considered it before myself. Usually it's an incredibly stupid move, but lends evidence to my theory that we as humans are not monogamous animals. Monogamy (to me) is our human will overpowering our natuaral inclinations. Any thoughts or better explanations?

I think whether we are monogamous or not is as individual as our personalities and outward physical traits. I have always believed that our value on monogamy comes from a "core" value that we have inately, but was molded by values instilled in us, not by what we were told to do, but by what we saw others doing, while in the younger years that are critical to learning. (Kind of a run on sentence there...hope it made sense)

I'm not sure that looking elsewhere really means we are not monogamous. I think it simply means we aren't happy and we are seeking that contentment we think we deserve or need.

Personally, I think it is a lack of happiness with ourselves that makes us look elsewhere.

In order to truly be happy with someone else, we have to love, respect, appreciate, and be happy with ourselves first. As humans, we tend to project what we don't like about ourselves onto others as an "excuse" for why we aren't happy. We then use that to seek the happiness elsewhere.

What's sad to me is that we spend all of our time here looking for someone else who can give us happiness when the happiness is within our own selves and we are just too ignorant to see it.

That's my personal belief anyway.

We are animals with only two small additions; the ability to reason and the coveted language skill. Other than that, dominate the gene pool says the caveman in your brain.

As Gwin said, we learn control. However, we learn algebra. Do you remember much algebra? :D
