Whatever training route you take, make it lower reps with higher weight if you are looking for that coveted six pack. 3-4 sets for upper and lower, and rest them like any other muscle. Then correct diet will bring them out.

And food for thought, I do hanging leg raises, decline situps with a 35 lb. weight on my chest, the ab machine (nautilus or other) and exercise ball rolling crunches for variety. Bang there they are, especially when that fat is gone ;)

I found abs really hard to work for ages I could do hundreds of crunches and not feel anything the next day. For my advice try lots of different exercises and see what works for you; but try to avoid using heavy weights, these will widen your waist.

Also make sure you find some that work the lower abs and do them at the start of an abs session. Many exercises just work the upper abs, where as lower abs exercises generally work both the upper and the lower.

Oh and as already stated abs are predominantly about removing the fat layer so diet and cardio.

Quoting from erirvine:

I don't think so! The rectus abdominus is your abs. The rectus abdominus is composed of about 46% slow-twitch muscle fibers. For that reason, exclusively performing high-rep sets will not do very much at all in the way of inducing muscular growth of the rectus abdominus and deepening the grooves in the coveted six-pack muscles. One must perform primarily resisted, low-rep crunches in order to hit the fast-twitch fibers of the rectus abdominus. This will grow the rectus abdominus.

Also make sure you find some that work the lower abs and do them at the start of an abs session. Many exercises just work the upper abs, where as lower abs exercises generally work both the upper and the lower.

Oh and as already stated abs are predominantly about removing the fat layer so diet and cardio.

Read the middle part of the quote. I forgot to put an * or something in there to show my addition why he is wrong.
