I eat a can of tuna everyday. I am wondering if there is a problem with that in the long run. Especially I hear that tuna could be contaminated with Mercury!
Thanks |

Yes, mercury is a health risk particularly in tuna and fish that eat other fish. It is something that is definately worth warranting.
Mercury is a neurotoxin as are several other metallic minerals such as aluminum. It is particularly dangerous for women of child bearing age (more so for the fetus than the woman) and children. Mercury is likely a major contributor to Alzheimer's Disease and other mental ailments that are acquired later in life. Here's a good link on the subject: http://www.pbs.org/now/science/mercury.html The FDA has a recommendation (regarding canned tuna) of no more than 12 ounces per week, I believe. The EPA's recommendations, however, are about one quarter of that. It's too bad - a perfectly great food ruined by pollutants dumped into the water. -------------- "Don't follow leaders and watch your parking meters!" -- Bob Dylan |

I just use a very small amount of light mayo. I like mine w/ celery, carrots, and green onions, it's like eating a breath mint w/ a fork, NOT. :)

Try mixing your tuna with ranch dressing. Its great. I use Walden Farms - no cal, no fat, no carbs, no sugar (and believe it or not, it tastes great). They also have other flavors - creamy bacon, caesar, italian, balsamic, honey mustard, bleu cheese, etc.

I just eat it like it is, sometimes I get the tomatoe and onion mixed in. It adds 1.5 grams of fat from soy oil.-------------- You can walk to anywhere you want, it only takes time. Ivan Montreal Canada (aka SpongeBob Square Pants to some!) |
