You can do a total body workout a couple times a week or you can do a split. What is your schedule like? Can you work out 3 or 4 times a week? Most people train 2-3 muscle groups at a time, but you don't have to. The trick is not to train the same muscle group more than once in a 4-5 day stretch, except abs, which are good to train every other day. My husband and I train together, here is a sample of our split:
M - back/biceps/abs (cardio for me)
T - shoulders/he does chest and I do hips/glutes
W - OFF (abs/cardio)
T - Legs
F - Chest/triceps/abs
S - cardio if time
S - OFF
