i was at the grocery store yesterday and wanted to find some low fat cheese. I'm tired of low fat cheddar, american, etc, so I thought I would see if there's any cheese out there naturally low in fat. I come across this really expensive white cheese with some name that starts with an M..can't remember. It only had 3 grams of fat an ounce. And since I love most all cheeses I've tried, I decided to buy it.
When I got home, I cut a chunk off, tried it, and it was the grossest thing I have EVER EATEN. EVER. So I looked at the ingredients....SHEEP CREAM. DO NOT EAT SHEEP CHEESE!! I REPEAT... NEVER BUY SHEEP CHEESE. I coulda barfed. anyone else have any funny/gross diet-food stories? |

Uh, folks, Chevre, French for goat or sometimes sheep cheese is terrific. Now the specific one you got might be bad, but its real cheese, not like the petrochemical american cheese which often only has a trace of milk. Its different, often very sharp or tangy, hard or soft, just wonderful nuance of flavor and texture. Now, I don't believe in "low fat" cheese or light beer - I just eat less of the good stuff (or drink less) and have more water.
Charles DeGaul is quoted as saying, "England has 100 languages and only one cheese, France has one language and 1000 cheeses." |

Personally, I don't like most French cheeses, but most of Italy's cheeses are oh soooo yummy, and several are made from goat's milk as well.-------------- Michael Trample the weak; hurdle the dead! Chaos, Panic, Disorder.... Yes, my work here is done! |

Ix-nay on the goat cheese. I like to try new things also and ordered a goat cheese pizza once---yuk! My husband couldn't even eat a bite. I got through a few, but from now on the joke is NO goat cheese on the pizza!
Tara, do you like feta? I was doing FF Mozzarella to death so have been using RF feta for a change. Has a strong flavor, but I only use about 1/8 cup on my salads. -------------- ~Victoria~ ...There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.--Beverly Sills |

I am a cheese lover. :) I haven't found one yet that I don't like. I have found that some cheeses are not meant to be eaten by themselves. :) Some are great to nibble on, and some should only be used within dishes so the flavor mingles with others.
They make cheese from just about every milk there is. :) Cow, goat, sheep, reindeer, mare, yak, buffalo. :) Depends on what country it is. Was it Malvern? Manchego? Meredith? Manouri? Mascares? These are all made with sheep milk and are naturally low in fat. As a rule of thumb, white cheeses are usually lower in fat than yellow cheeses. So, mozarella will have less fat naturally than cheddar. :) -------------- ~Jennifer http://www.gwindalyn.com If you dont stand for something, you will fall for anything. |

Have you guys tried Laughing Cow Light Cheese Wedges? They come flavored also in Garlic & Herbs i think. It's a great satisfying snack and at only 35 cals a wedge.
