Hi, everyone! I am a 20/fem. I just filled out the profile, etc. It says I am supposed to have 2451calories a day and that just seems like way too much to me!I have some health conditions which have limited me in my activity and I am in pain a lot.I recently started trying to use the gym at my apt. complex, but don't want to injure myself.I started walking at the least 2miles about 5times a wk and at the most 4miles.I am 5'6 and weigh 184lbs right now...my highest weight ever since being sick for some time. I have been eating the slim fast bars latley, but they seem to have a lot of carbs..any advice? I was going to try the Atkins diet until I found out it can cause some health problems and might make my heart act up,when I already have problems. I am not able to work right now and I am not to active during the day until I walk or go to the gym..any suggestions?I would appreciate anyone's help right now as I am trying to learn how to eat right and get back in shape as much as I can, still acknowledging some of my limitations. Hope to hear back soon.Feel free to email me at XXPRETTYINPINK@AOL.COM as well.
Thanks and take care,
Jen

Jen, please fill in your profile. This will assist us even more. Forget the bars, and try to opt for whole food. 5-6 small but decent meals will get your metabolism up. The more you make it work, the more it has to. Add the walking in when you can. Start in gym at your complex very slowly. If this isn't an option, buy yourself a swiss ball and a couple 5 lb. dumbbells. Very cheap at a Wal Mart supercenter. The ball will have exercises you can follow using it without weights, and you can use the dumbbells as your strength grows. The muscle you build will aid you in your fat burning. It will also rev your metabolism. That calorie amount is not really far off. Just for maintenance calories you should be around 2200. Try that for about 2 weeks, and see what you do. If you are staying the same, then you have your maintenace calories, and you can start reducing from there. A 500 calorie per day cut would be a good start, that would be a deficit of 3500 calories per week, which is 1 lb. loss. Any exercise on top of that would only add to it. Go for no more than 2 lbs. per week. Anything more and you may be happy with the scale, but it is most likely muscle, and will slow your fat burning even more. This was a lot to cover in one post, and I just skimmed the surface, but hopefully enough to give you an idea of where to start. Good luck to you, feel free to post your questions/concerns. We are here to help you.
