jogging in the morning

I want to start jogging in the morning mainly because i have seen it stated so many places that it's the best time if you want to burn fat. Now, what i need help with is to know how to prepare myself in the morning prior to running. SHould i eat or drink anything before i go out, or should i just wake up and run. Also, I have a bad tendancy to get those cramps on my side when i run, any way to help avoid this? Any help would be really appreciated, thanx.
