from what i've learned so far in my research (which isn't a whole lot - i am new at this after all!) the general consensus is that it's better to eat small snacks/meals several times a day. My question is, i've been giving this a try and it seems that at least for two of the snacks/small meals i'm making myself eat when i'm not even hungry! is this how it's supposed to work? Or will i eventually get on a schedule where i am hungry every few hours?

thanks - everyone here is so helpful!!!

I think that is the idea. eating small meals 6-7 times a day speeds up your metabolism and ensures you don't never go hungry. Your body also uses the food better. when you eat large meals, any calories not used by the body are more likley to turn to fat. It also helps to stabalize blood sugar levels. If you are training you will probably start getting hungry every 2-3 hours. Just make sure you consume some protien at each meal as this will prevent your muscles being used for energy.

Im no expert but thats my 2cents

Tep, there are a lot of posts about this subject.
You will know your metabolism is up when you are hungry every three hours or so.
Make sure each meal/snack consist of protein, fibrous carbohydrates and a little good fat.
Good luck!

Eating mini-meals through the day is good so you stay satisfied. It helps you so you don't get to the point where you're so hungry, you'll overeat. I eat 5 mini meals a day and it helps sustain my energy throughout the day. It takes a while to get used to do also.
