as a recent convert to the several small meals a day system - i was just wondering if there's a general consensus as to a max amount of cals to be consumed at once. does eating a few 200 cal snacks and then one 1200 cal meal defeat the purpose? Should i aim for 500 cals or under per meal? any ideas greatly appreciated...thanx

I think I remember seeing several people recommend trying to even it out. If you are allowed 2000 calories and you are eating 6 times then aim for 300-350 per meal. That is the ideal situation. Mine don't ever come out that evenly, but I try not to have more than 500 at any meal, unless it is a cheat day or special occasion. Just for kicks here is how mine came out a few days ago for 7 meal/snacks: 260, 341, 400, 210(pre-workout), 424(post-workout), 345, 180 for a total of 2160. Not real consistent, but not bad.

In answer to your question, yes it does. Eating huge amounts at one sitting will prompt fat storage. If you have for instance a 2000 calorie per day diet, divide them rather equally between meals. If as you mention, you have one meal that is 1200 calories, and then try to balance out the rest of the day with the rest, chances are you will be lacking in the rest of your meals in balanced nutrients, and your body will learn to store from the large meal what it is not going to get the rest of the day, usually as fat for survival needs, and this is true no matter what time of day you have this meal.
