Hello All,
I just found out that I have 4 months to train before the national firefighters competition prelims. I know that I need to increase my cardio fitness, but I also need to increaes my strength fitness. How exactly can I do this without compromising one for the other?

I've been to these FF comps before, and they are incredible! I suggest taking a lighter version of the training used for a strongman comp. With these FF comps, you need both functional strength as well as increased cardio capacity, which is exactly what you do for strongman.

I have one or two of such regimens in my office. I will look for them tomorrow and get back to you with them if you want. Otherwise, try a search on the internet.

Good luck!

Thank you...I would appreciate any help that you may be able to offer, I earned this through placing second overall in my state competition.

I'm glad you bumped this question- I couldn't find it after last week...LOL!

Try this site out. About half-way down and to the left is a whole list of articles on successive strongman training. Take a look at it and let me know what you think. I really think if you base your training on something like this, you will notice a huge difference in your competitions.
