The very best way to loose fat and shape a beautiful body is to stop all that cardio and start lifting heavy.

Follow your plan for a while and see what kind of results you get. If you read through some of the posts here on cardio you will see that 3x a week is usually plenty, but that each one of those sessions should be different in length and contect.-------------- ~Victoria~ ...There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.--Beverly Sills |

I am trying to build muscle mass and defintion while trimming down, it sounds like you are trying to acheive something similar. Personally, I only do 25-30 minutes of cardio per day, but it's not how you are thinking. I do 12-15 minutes of cardio (running, stationary bike, olyptical machine) before lifting, then I work myself to the max while I lift and then after my workout I cool down with 12-15 more minutes of cardio. It seems to help alittle. I have noticed gains from it, but everyone responds differently to things.-------------- B. Ross Lafferty BRL150@psu.edu Aim Screen Name: Rosco356 |

Cardio burns calories not necessarily fat. Muscle does burn fat. Thats why philia suggested it.

You have to find the balance between enough cardio, where you are creating just the right calorie deficit to lose fat and too much cardio, where your body starts to burn off your lean tissue mass.
The best way to determine if you are doing the right amount of cardio for your fitness level is to take some photos in a swimsuit, get your body composition done and workout consistently for 2-4 weeks, then have it done again and take photos again. if you are leaner and have even the slightest bit more definition, you are on the right track, continue what you are doing and take photos/body comp again in a month. When you hit the point where you don't see any change, you need to add a little cardio or change your diet a little. Do one or the other, so you know what works. Lift heavy to stimulate and preserve your muscle mass, even while trying to lose fat. You want all of that nice, hungry muscle. And remember - you can do all the cardio and lifting in the world, but if you don't eat correctly you will not get the great results you should for all that effort. You have to assure yopur body that it is okay to give up fat stores and give it quality fuel to keep/build lean tissue mass. If you are already at the level of doing 30-55 minutes daily, than you will want to be sure and vary the type and intensity of cardio that you are doing. Try warming up for 10 minutes, lifting and then doing 20-30 minutes of cardio. And don't forget to have a post-workout shake to replenish. Good luck! -------------- Challenge + Consistency = Results "You do or you do not. There is no try." - Yoda |

I think lifting weights is real important but also cardio is important to boost your heart rate. If you gain muscle, you'll be naturally burning calories. Also, diet is probably more important than exercise. Try to guage what you are eating. Sodas, candy, fast foods, anything with alot of sugar can be attributed to fat. you need to make a conscios effort to change the way you eat.
