Hi! I've been working out fairly strenuously for about a year and a half now 5 days a week. The problem is tht in the past couple of months I seem to have burnt out... can't get stronger, no motivation, feeling unhappy and frustrated whilst at the gym, etc. Everything seems to be at a standstill and it's very annoying as, of course, I want to become stronger and more muscular and everything's at a standstill. Might it be a good idea to take a few days off? Thanks!

When was the last time you took a break? If you haven't had a week or two off from the gym in the last 6 months or more, then you are due. Rest worke wonders, especially when feeling burnt-out or stuck in a rut. While on a break, make up a new routine and comeback with somechanges. Also look at your diet? Are you eating enought to support the amount of muscle you have?

azredhead is right. Sounds like time for a week off. Get outta the gym, eat lots of good food and relax. let your body heal. Then go back fresh and start a new routine. switch up your reps, the days you lift, your split, when you do cardio. And find a 'fitness' activity you enjoy to do once a week instead, like kickboxing, or climbing or cycling or spin class. Don't beat yourself up, it just sounds like you are overtrained.
Have you considered periodization? You go through training cycles, with a different focus each cycle, like power, strength, endurance. It is kind of cool and fun for a change.
Good luck!
