all I have are free weights. Are there any affective ways of resistance training for the abs using only free weights??

One excersise for the obliques and for tightening the stomach in general is to hold a weight in your hands with your arms nearly straight. Sit on your backside with your back at a 45 degree angle and move the weight left to right by using the top half of your body to create the motion.
