I'm just getting back into lifting. I played football in High School and was about 160lbs when I was lifting almost daily. I'm now 5'8" and 150lbs and am looking to bulk up, but also want to stay cut. I've been running every day at the beginning of my workout for about 10 mintues (1 mile) and am just wondering if I'm running enough. I run every day, stick to my workout schedule, and jump rope in the mornings. I have a pretty fast metabolism and I just wanted to get an idea of whether I'm getting enough cardio-vascular activity. I'm not in school and am a programmer so just sit in front of the computer all day. My workouts are pretty much all the exercise I get during the week other then any activities I might participate in during the weekends (not much). Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Nick

BTW I'm male and 22 y/o, I'm not sure why my profile isn't being filled in cause it is all there whenever I look at my personal profile. Anyways, thanks again.

With a fast metabolism, and the amount of running and jumping rope you are doing, you are going to literally have to take in a ton of calories for any decent muscle gains. You really can't have it both ways right now. If you want to gain lean muscle, you are going to have to eat for it and lift for it. This also means dropping some of your running. You have to build some muscle first before you can tone it. If you eat a good clean diet, you can do this with a minimal amount of fat gain.

Great people never want it easier, they just want to be better!

Another bit of advice as I went through the same thing. I spent a month to bulk up, then I started cutting the body fat that I gained. Instead of running before your workout which from my experience tired me a little so I couldn't lift as much, I run after my workouts. I found that it works best if I took a quick protein shake before I ran, but I generally don't have the time for that. I would either run or use the exercise bike for 20 minutes and have gotten pretty good resuts.
