Hi. I train in martial arts, and am wondering about ways in which I can stretch towards the side splits (at times, I feel like I've hit a plateau and can't get further).

Hi banzai. Welcome to ft. When doing the side splits you will hit a plateau as the muscles and joints get use to being told to stretch futher. You will need to work stretching the abductor and adductors more to get a good stretch. There a a view excersices that allow this. Sit on a Bench, put your ankle on the bent knee, then push down lightly on the knee feeling a stretch in the adductor. Switch legs. ALso do a leg swing. Stand in a walking stance. Swing the back leg forward doing a circular motion to the out side for about 10 then do the same with an inward circular motion for about 10. Try these. Then look up a book on stretches.
